LED Tubes vs. Fluorescent Lights

Unless you are from the light industry, it’s hard to differentiate between LED technology and fluorescent tubes. In the past, fluorescent lights were the best options available for offices, garages, and shops.

They produced light by converting ultraviolet emissions with the fluorescent coating inside the tube. They required a warm-up period to evaporate the internal gas into plasma. There is also ballast present with the fixtures to control the flow of electricity and avoid filament overheating.

Nowadays, T8 LED tube lights have replaced the traditional fluorescent lights with adequate brightness and less power-consuming components. They perform much better on standard ceiling heights. Let’s discuss some of the advantages of LED tubes.

Toxic elements

While fluorescent tubes have mercury and phosphor present inside them, LED is free from toxic and harmful chemicals and is environment-friendly. LED tubes are made of polycarbonate lenses and no hazardous materials, making them easy to recycle.

LED tubes do not produce harmful UV rays

While fluorescent lights emit UV rays which is a leading cause of eye strain and fatigue, LEDs don’t emit any rays and produce smooth brightness for a given area.

LED tubes provide more light

While most of the LED tubes have a beam angle of 180 degrees, the light’s focus is on a 180-degree area compared to fluorescents with a beam angle of 360-degree and the majority of brightness generated by it escapes through sides and top.

Longevity and easier to install

Energy and brightness focus last longer in LED tubes. Current LED specifications can endure more than 50,000 hours of power and offer a standard warranty of 5 years or more. They are easy to install, and some of them are ballast bypass tubes, which eliminate additional power usage and make them cost-efficient. Fluorescent tubes are energy-consuming, and heat emission is more from them.

LED lights are more efficient and effective when compared the fluorescent ones. They are available in more styles and significantly cost less than the traditional ones. It lowers energy demands and decreases the power bills. It’s time to keep aside fluorescent tubes and upgrade to new generation LED tubes for better efficiency.
